Noctilucent Clouds over London

There were some beautiful Noctilucent Clouds over London last weekend. Noctilucent means "night-shining" as these clouds glow a brilliant blue-white during the night. This is because they are as high as 80 km, at the edge of space, so that they are lit by the sun even when it is well below the horizon. Here they are bright enough to reflect in the Thames.

They are amazing to see: not just for being lit when everything else is dark, but because of their intricate structure. Vortices, waves, edges, all in continual motion.

I named my YA SF trilogy after them, for my characters shining amongst the darkness between the Earth and space.

I was busy over the weekend doing the copy edits for Book 2. Looking forward to seeing that book when it is finally published in the autumn!
